1 semester
Prerequisites
Math.methods 1, Math.methods 2, Linear algebra
Course Objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce to the students theory of probability and statistical methods which enable them to formulate simple statistical models to real problems. With these models as a starting point the students will be able to perform point- and interval estimation and statistical hypothesis testing. They will also be able to do some quality- and process-control.
Learning Methods
4 1hr lectures and 2 1hr tutorial per week for 18 weeks.
Course Description
Descriptive statistics. Probability, combinatorics, discrete and continuos probability distributions. Test of hypotheses. Point- and interval-estimation of parameters, especially in normal and binomial distributions. Regression analysis. Simulation and bootstrap. Quality and process control.
Maple will be used as a computational tool.
Assessment Methods
Midterm 20 %, another midterm 20 %, final exam 60 %.
