One semester
Prerequisites
Thermodynamics
Course Objectives
The course gives an overview of energy production technologies with focus on the physical processes involved.
Learning Methods
Lectures and supervised problem solving
Course Description
The course covers the following topics: Energy types and classifications, thermodynamic efficiency, exergy analysis, world energy consumption and outlook, hydrogen as an energy carrier, description of different forms of renewable energy, e.g. solar (thermal), solar (photovoltaic), and wind energy. Production and utilization of bio-fuels, including hydrogen. Traditional power generation technology. Domestic and industrial burners for gas, oil, coal, bio fuels, hazardous waste and refuse derived fuels (RDF). Environmental aspects of energy production and utilization.
Assessment Methods
Mandatory tasks count 50 %; Individual, written final examination counts 50 % of the grade.
