One semester
Prerequisites
Termodynamics&Physical Chemistry(K3296), Energy&Materialbalances(K4301),
Heat&Separation Technology (K3603)
Course Objectives
This project aims at giving the students knowledge of process plant planning and design. The students shall also be made aware of the importance of environmental and safety considerations in process plant design.
Learning Methods
Work in project groups, and short courses.
Course Description
In this project the students are expected to plan a complete process plant or part of a plant. The calculations can include: Mass & energy balances, design of unit operations and investment and operating cost considerations. Evaluation of environmental and safety aspects should also be included. HYSYS, a computer program for process flow sheet design and simulation, is used for process calculations. The students are divided into project groups of 3-5 persons.
Assessment Methods
A written report followed by a presentation. The presentation and the report is then subject to an oral examination, for each student and for the group. The report, final exam and the students work during the project counts in the final evaluation.
