Course Objectives

Acquire knowledge of  refinery-processing where natural gas and crude oil are converted to intermidiate products.
Acquire knowledge of various industrial processes, where intermidiate products from refining are used as rawmaterial for the production of chemical substances like methanol, ammonia, polymers etc.
To be able to use Hysys process simulator for static process simulation of industrial processes.

Course Description

Use of Hysys static process simulator.
Refining of crude oil and gas:
Refineryprocessing, crude oil distillation, thermal cracking of hydrocarbons, pyrolysis, steamreforming.
Synthesisgas production.
Introduction to industrial processes:
Production of ammonia, methanol.
Production of ethylene,propylene, vinylchloride.
Use of flowsheets from selected processes from Hydro Rafnes/Hydro Porsgrunn, Borealis etc.

Assessment Methods

Written individual final exam (60%), other evaluations counts (40%).
Compulsory Hysys data-exercises must be passed.
