One semester
Prerequisites
Termodynamics&Physical Chemistry(K3296), Energy&Materialbalances(K4301),
Heat&Separation Technology (K3603)
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to give the student knowledge about a systematic procedure for the conceptual design of chemical processes. Insight on how to select the process units and the interconnection among these units, and estimate the optimum design condition. Give insight to computer simulations in conceptual design and optimization of flow sheets and unit-operations using the process-simulator HYSYS
Learning Methods
Lectures, exercises, Hysys computerexercises and case-study.
Course Description
Engineering Economics with cost data correlations for process units. Developing a conceptual design and finding the best flowsheet. Input-output structure of the flowsheet. Recycle structure of the flowsheet. Separation systems. Heat exchanger networks. Preliminary process optimization. Short cut procedures for equipment design. Computer exercises and a case study using Hysys process-simulator.
Assessment Methods
Compulsory case study 40%. Individual, written final examination 60%.
Compulsory Hysys exercises must be passed to take the case-study
No study aids permitted at the final examination.
