The course will provide students with fundamental knowledge of efficient maintenance methods, and knowledge of methods regarding performance monitoring and fault diagnoses.
Terminology, definitions and principles, availability and the importance of maintenance to availability. Types and choice of maintenance. Maintenance control. Organisation of maintenance, reliability centred maintenance (RCM) and maintenance efficiency. Maintenance strategies, operation and life cycle costs (LCC). Spare parts management.
Survey of performance concept and methods for performance monitoring. Organisation of performance monitoring. Basics of vibration theory and vibration analysis, mathematical basis, principles of measurement, analytical methods. Theoretical basis for thermodynamic performance monitoring and output monitoring. Oil analyses, wear mechanisms and analytic methods. Outlines of other non-destructive methods of inspection.
Trend analyses and diagnostics. Presentation of programmes for performance monitoring and fault diagnoses based on measurements.
Lectures and obligatory exercises
The final course grade is calculated thus:
Final assessment (final examination) 70 %
Continuous assessment (exercises) 30 %
At least 80% of the exercises must be completed and approved in order to sit the final examination.
