The main areas of research at the Department of Biology are aquaculture, ethology, evolutionary biology, Environmental toxicology, physiology, marine biology, molecular biology, natural resource management and general ecology.
Interdisciplinary research is important and the Department of Biology works closely with other NTNU departments, NINA, SINTEF and national and international partners. The Department of Biology has a dynamic international research environment and participates in Nordic and European research and exchange programmes. Marine research is one of the Strategic Areas at NTNU. Molecular biology is also a priority research area in the Department.
Bachelor and master students work together with senior scientists, project team members and PhD students in all aspects of research.
