This site contains a short description of the Biobank. If you need more information, you may contact the Biobank at the address stated at the bottom of this page.

The Regional Biobank of Central Norway, henceforth called the Biobank, is a research database which contains a collection of human biological material such as blood, tissue and urin samples. The material is collected as part of medical examinations, diagnosis or treatment. The term “research database” indicates that the contents of the database comprise not only collected biological material, but also the information provided when analysing the material.

The Biobank is foreseen to give an increased knowledge about causes for diseases and their mechanisms, and thereby contributing to improve prophylactic health work, diagnostics and treatment.

The Biobank is owned and operated by official authorities on a no commercial profit basis.

It is a cooperation between the Central Norwegian Regional Health Authority (data managment and administration) and the Faculty of Medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (economics and personnel).

The Regional Biobank of Central Norway is approved by The Data Inspectorate of Norway, and by the Region Commitee for Medical Research Ethics and all information from the Biobank is handled according to the guidelines of the Data Inspectorate.
