A PhD research fellowship position is offered within the area of Networked Systems at the Department of Telematics in the Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering (IME), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The Department of Telematics has 3 research areas: (1) Networked Systems, (2) Networks, and (3) Information Security. The department has approximately 35 PhD students and is currently involved in a national centre of Excellence (Q2S, www.q2s.ntnu.no), National research programs, EU Network of Excellences (ePhoton/ONe, Euro-NGI) and EU research projects (SPICE, SIMS). The research focus of this PhD fellowship position is on methods and tools for high level service modeling and automated transformation to executable realizations. Network based services in the future are expected to have a rich content, to be personalized and to be adaptable to different usage situations. Rapid and modular development as well as delivery over highly heterogeneous and dynamic platforms will be needed. Central research questions are how collaboration-oriented models can be used to specify services in a compositional way and how such models can be refined into detailed design models suitable for automatic translation to executable code. Methods and tools shall be developed to support this.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Professor Peter Herrmann (email: herrmann@item.ntnu.no; Phone: +47 73 59 43 27; http://www.item.ntnu.no/~herrmann/) or Professor Rolv Bræk (email: rolv.braek@item.ntnu.no; Phone: +47 73 59 26 70; http://www.item.ntnu.no/~rolvbra/) for further information. For more detailed information about the department, see http://www.item.ntnu.no/, and about the research area Networked Systems see http://www.item.ntnu.no/research2.php
