Industrial ecology in energy intensive industry

With research funds from the Norwegian Research Council we started the project "Industrial Ecology in Energy Intensive Industry" in 2000. It ran until August 2006. The aim was to improve and apply methods of industrial ecology, including life-cycle assessment and exergy analysis, in energy-intensive industries and to develop a better understanding of the social and organizational conditions of the application and 'reception' of such analysis. Further we aimed to contribute to the development of the Industrial Ecology Programme at NTNU through an interdisciplinary collaboration among different departments from three different faculties - Humanities, Natural Sciences and Engineering. The project included 3 PhD stipends, 1 PostDoc stipend, a Professor II position and research time of 4 professors. In addition, minor funding went to research assistants, students and to our collaboration with Faye Duchin and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA).
