– The Norwegian Programme for Development, Research and Higher Education
WHAT IS NUFU?
NUFU is a Norwegian Programme for Development, Research and Higher Education, a cooperation between equal partners in the South and in the North - for mutual benefit.
THE OBJECTIVE
The main objective of NUFU is to contribute towards competence and capacity within research and research-based education in the South through cooperation between universities.
The NUFU Programme is funded by the Norwegian government, and NTNU has been involved in the NUFU Programme since 1992. As of 2006, there are 13 long-term cooperation projects running. Most of these projects will be completed in 2007, the few remaining will be completed in 2008.
NUFU cooperation is to enhance:
the developments nationally and regionally in the South
poverty reduction (in accordance with national strategies e.g. Poverty Reduction Plans)
stronger links between institutions in the South and in the North - including student exchanges
APPLICATION
1 June 2006 was the deadline for submitting applications for the fourth NUFU Period (2007 - 2011). Initially the applications were evaluated externally. The next step in the process was an institutional assessment of each application by the institutions in the South and in the North. The NUFU Board made the final decision based on the external evaluations and institutional priorities. The priorities of the institutions in the South counts twice as much as the priorities made in the North.
