Master of Science in Social Anthropology

Social Anthropology
The Master's degree programme aims to disseminate a general understanding of society based on a comparative study of culture and society with particular emphasis on non-European systems. Anthropology is an educational subject which provides unique opportunities for acquiring knowledge about the major variations in the human ways. Anthropologists have special knowledge which enables them to speak of our diverse global present: trans-cultural flow, multiculturalism, modernization, and migration.

You will be given a comprehensive introduction to different approaches, theories, topics and methods. Through your own field work, you will also be trained to conduct scientific investigation and research work through training in practical application. This ability to apply your practical experience in field work to professional knowledge makes you sought-after on the labour market. This programme suits those who seek to understand the connections between societal institutions and the consequences of social systems for individuals in their daily lives. This programme will provide a macro-perspective by going through society's superior premises and a micro-perspective which includes human interaction in daily life.

Interdisciplinarity
This programme has an exceptional national position. Proximity to major technological environments and large industry actors provides unique advantages within the study of modern, complex organizations. As such, interdisciplinarity is a keyword. In combination with a comprehensive social anthropological basis and an academic openness to alternative perspectives to both old and new problems – anything from ‘the social responsibility of business' to traditional production methods in the third and fourth world – make this learning environment fit the needs of the private and public sectors.

The Master's programme is brought to a close with a Master's thesis in social anthropology which builds on your own field work. Here you will be trained in working independently with a problem. Academic advice is an essential part of this work.
