About Brita Bye
My main research interests are economic growth, public economics and environmental economics. Most of my research has been related to normative policy analyses in a range of fields as income and capital taxation, indirect taxation as VAT reforms, environmental policies and growth policies. The research is mainly based on analyses that utilize empirical dynamic general equilibrium models for the Norwegian economy.
A noticeable part of my research has been development and refining of numerical CGE models, especially regarding intertemporal modelling for a small open economy and labour supply issues. I have studied the cost-effectiveness measured as economic welfare effects of "flat tax reform", "efficient housing taxation", "green tax reforms" etc. In my ongoing work policy analyses on how to promote economic growth and interlinkages between technological change and environmental policies demand modelling of technological change, and we have incorporated technological change mechanisms generated by research and development in an new empirical CGE framework for Norway. I am also engaged in how to measure effects of different environmental policy means and how technological policies can interact with environmental policies.
