EU/EEA enlargement and Norwegian transitional rules

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) coordinates all information concerning labour migration in connection with the EU / EEE enlargement. Relevant information about the Norwegian transitional rules and links to other relevant information is available on the directorate’s web site.

The Norwegian transitional rules means that there will still be a requirement for workers from eight of the new EU member states to obtain work permits before starting to work in Norway. Work permits will be issued for full-time employment at normal rates of pay and under normal working conditions. Anyone who can find a job that meets these requirements will be entitled to a work permit.

Relevant circulars, application forms, fact sheets and other information is available at the directorates web site. The fact sheets have been translated to the national languages of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia. Citizens from these countries are requiered to obtain a work permit under the transitional rules.

Potential employers and emloyees can get further information at
UDI’s web site about EU/EEA enlargement and Norwegian transitional rules in English.
