Aim and Content
The course will address research topics and problems within cardiovascular physiology, including: the cardiac myocyte, control of cardiac output, the endothelial cell and its microenvironment, control of blood vessels, fluid exchange, and co-ordinated cardiovascular responses.
Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course the student should be able to:
Knowledge
- Explain the cardiac myocyte and the structure and function of the endothelial cell.
- Explain general mechanisms for control of cardiac output, exchange of fluid- and gasses, as well as examples of complex coordinated responses from the cardiovascular system.
- Explain and give examples of controlling cardiac output to the brain, heart, lungs, sceletal muscles and skin.
- Explain selected methods and techniques commonly used in cardiovascular research.
Skills and competences
- Discuss the effects of various pathological conditions on the cardiovascular system.
- Understand, analyze and critically assess scientific and academic articles in the field of cardiovascular research.
- Convey and present advanced and complex information in the field.
