Nordic Languages
The Nordic languages are Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Icelandic, and Faroese. Nowadays, there are about 19 million people using these language on a daily basis, and Nordic languages have been spoken in Scandinavia for two millennia. Language plays a key role in human life in so many ways: in thinking and speaking, in society and history. For this reason, the study of Nordic languages is closely tied to the history of the Scandinavian countries and their culture. They are studied and researched both in terms of their structure (sounds and grammar) and of their use in communication and as expressions of identity and culture.
