Welcome to the Norwegian courses for immigrants at the University of Bergen
The Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic studies offers courses in Norwegian language and culture to foreign students and employees at the University of Bergen.
There are courses on different levels, and you have to pass the examination of each level to be allowed to continue on the next level. New applicants with a certain knowledge of Norwegian have to take a placement test in order to be placed on the level suitable for him/her.
NOR-U01 is a beginner’s course suitable for exchange students who will stay in Norway for only one semester.
NOR-U1 is also a beginner’s course, but is more comprehensive than NOR-U01. After having passed the examination of NOR-U1 you can go to the next level NOR-U2 and then to NOR-U3 or NOR-U2/3.
NOR-U1/2 (a beginner’s course) and NOR-U2/3 are intensive courses which cover two levels in one semester. Passing the examination of NOR-U3 and NORU2/3 satisfies the requirement for knowledge of Norwegian for general admission to Norwegian universities and colleges.
NOR-U4 suits those who will improve their knowledge of Norwegian further and who have a good basic knowledge of Norwegian from level 3. NOR-U4 if offered only in the spring semester.
A Nynorsk course is offered to employees at the University of Bergen. This course is taking place in the spring semester for those who already have a good basic knowledge of Norwegian Bokmål.
There is a limited number of places on each course, and you have to apply for admission.
