Following her master, she has mainly worked in the field of neurophysiology particularly on the role of nitric oxide and of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the visual system of amphibia and fish. Since 2001, her main interest is focused on molecular developmental biology, comparative genomics and gene evolution using as model systems zebrafish and salmon. Currently, Rita Angotzi is working on the identification of duplicated leptin genes in salmonids.

Rita Angotzi holds a MSc in Natural Science (1994) from UNICA Italy, and a PhD in Molecular Biology (2008) from the Sars Centre and the Department of Molecular Biology, UiB

During her PhD, A. Rita studied the role of paired-like transcription factors such as Pitx and prophet of –Pit genes, during pituitary development using as models zebrafish and Atlantic salmon.

Thesis: Evolution of pitx and prop1 gene functions during fish pituitary development
