Doctoral education at SKOK

Students admitted under the doctoral programme receive advanced and rigorous training in gender theory and its relevance in research and current debates. In this respect, SKOK regularly organizes doctoral courses for its own doctoral candidates, as well as for other doctoral students studying in Norway or abroad. Professor II, David Eng, from the University of Pennsylvania (USA), offers periodic research courses in his main areas of expertise: critical race theory, affect theory, minority studies, psychoanalysis, visual culture, masculinities studies, gender studies and queer studies.

In addition, SKOK offers courses under the auspices of the Norwegian Research School in Gender Studies. This is often organized in terms of team-teaching with other national and international gender studies researchers. All courses are open to participants outside SKOK and the University of Bergen.

As part of its outreach seminar program, SKOK regularly arranges Masters and PhD relays, where we invite master students and doctoral candidates at the University of Bergen to come and present their respective gender-related projects to others. Participants receive comments as well as guidance from faculty at SKOK, within a supportive, intellectual and multi-disciplinary environment. By our openness to interdisciplinarity we endeavour to cater for students in gender studies whose areas of interest extend beyond conventional disciplinary boundaries.
