There are more than 200 active student societies, clubs and organisations at
the University of Oslo. These include societies for students on a particular study programme, social clubs for specific faculties, and societies for the pursuit of certain hobbies and interest. Among the latter are theatre
groups, choirs, publications, political societies and special interest groups.
Note that most of these organisations do not have a special programme for English-speaking students, and though most Norwegian students speak good English, language may be an issue.
Students are well-represented in the governing bodies of the University, and there are elected student councils in every department and faculty. These can be contacted through the individual departments or faculties or through the Student Parliament (Offices in Villa Eika at Blindern, phone number 22 85 70 44), which is the highest elected student body at the University.
The Student Life Office in The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo (SiO) co-operates closely with the university in developing practical programmes aimed at improving the learning environment at the university. It also runs the university's orientation programme for new students and supports student activities with funding, advice and training. For more information, please e-mail studentliv@sio.no .
