Semester card, key card and student card
Take good care of your semester card. You must have it with you to obtain a student card or if you travel using student discounts.
Semester card
A semester card will be sent to you in the post from the middle of June/December once you have
- registered as a student in StudentWeb
- paid the semester fee
UiO receives many returned semester cards. Help us reduce this problem by:
- registering your correct semester address in StudentWeb
- placing your name on your postbox
- notifying Posten Norge of any change of address.
How long is the semester card valid?
The card for the autumn is valid until 31 January. The card for the spring is valid until 31 August.
Not yet received your card?
- Maybe a semester card is on the way from UiO. If so, the following message is displayed on the startside in StudentWeb: "Semester card ordered to your semester address: (date)".
- Your registered address may be incorrect. Please make sure your current semester address is correctly registered in StudentWeb.
- Remember to put your name on your postbox.
Lost your card?
Order a new semester card autumn 2015. A new semester card will be sent to your semester address a few days after you have ordered it. Sending of semester cards during holiday periods can take longer than usual.
The semester card is confirmation that you are a student
A valid semester card confirms that you
- have paid the semester fee for the semester concerned
- are registered as a student for the semester concerned
- have a right to study the subjects specified in the Opptatt til følgende studier [Enrolled in the following studies] field on the semester card
Key card/student card for UiO
The student card has your name and picture on it. Together with the semester card for the semester concerned, it is valid as student identification.
Among other things, the student card can be used as an access card and a library card at UiO’s libraries. Valid student identification gives you the right to discounts for travel and theatre performances etc.
Student cards are issued to students who are staying more than 6 months and who have:
- Completed the semester registration
- Received a Norwegian ID number.
- Reported their permanent Norwegian ID number to the International Student Reception.
Approx. 7 days after reporting your Norwegian ID Number to the International Student Reception, you can go to the SiO Centre to get your card. The SiO Centre is located next door to Akademika at Blindern Campus. The total waiting time to obtain a student card could be up to 8 weeks after your arrival to Norway.
The student card may be obtained from SiO. Remember to take your semester card and passport/national ID.
Key card
- The key card/swipe card is issued to students staying less than 6 months and who are not entitled to a Student card. You can get this card at the SiO centre after you have completed the semester registration.
- The key card has the same functions as a student card, but you need to register at the library as a user for it to be a library card.
- The SiO centre is located next to the bookshop Akademica at Blindern Campus. Bring your semester card and a valid form of ID, meaning a passport or a Norwegian ID card with picture. Your photo will be taken and your card will be issued there.
