How to create name based virtual hosts with Apache 2.0 and Plone 2.0

We have a single web-server with multiple DNS names (and these names can be resolved to both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses). In the httpd.conf file add the following configuration:

<LocationMatch "^[^/]">
    Deny from all
</LocationMatch>
NameVirtualHost *:80
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www.aaa.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@aaa.com
    ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.aaa.com:80/AA/VirtualHostRoot/
    ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.aaa.com:80/AA/VirtualHostRoot/
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www.bbb.com
    ServerAdmin webmaster@bbb.com
    ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.bbb.com:80/BB/VirtualHostRoot/
    ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.bbb.com:80/BB/VirtualHostRoot/
</VirtualHost>

In this example www.aaa.com and www.bbb.com are two DNS names resolving to this web-server. On this server we have a Zope installation with Plone 2.0. Zope is listening on port 8080. In the Zope server we have created two Plone sites in the root folder, AA and BB. We have also installed the VirtualHostMonster in the root folder. A more detailed description is available at the plone site.

The LocationMatch rule is important to avoid the use of your web site as a proxy.
