Anonymous on the Internet

Tor (or this page) is an anonymous Internet communication system. From its home page:

Tor is a toolset for a wide range of organizations and people that want to improve their safety and security on the Internet. Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications that use the TCP protocol.

Tor routes your traffic via a distributed network of servers (called Onion routers) making it difficult (impossible) to analyse your Internet activities. You set up your browser to use a proxy running locally on your computer. This proxie forwards your request and the response via the distributed network of servers.
