First comments on the new MacBook Pro

My step by step guide to bring my new MacBook Pro from only new and shiny to a useful work machine fitting my needs and preferences does not say anything about my experiences with this new HW. Do I regret that I bought this early generation of the Mac:Intel computers?

Well, the short answer is no. My 4 years old PowerBook was ready for retirement, and this seems to be the best replacement I could find. I got a MacBook Pro with a 2GHz Intel Core Duo processor. I configured it with 2GB of memory and a 100GB Serial-ATA disk (7200 rpm). The user experience is so much better than my old PowerBook. The response is instant, the screen is bright, the built-in iSight camera is cool (I look forward to Skype 2.0 for Mac), the pre-installed software is impressive (iLife and iWork, but also Comic Life, Chess, Dictionary, OmniOutliner, and much more), the availability of applications for Mac:Intel is very impressive (consider how short time the hw has been available for the consumers), and it is still a Mac. The power supply is actually larger than on my PowerBook, but the new magnetic connector is a good idea. The actual machine is very similar to the newer PowerBooks, and it is also hot in use. Battery life is much better than on my old PowerBook, but I guess similar to a PowerBook with a new battery.
