Mort, Elvis and Einstein
Applying personas describes three different kind of developers:
Mort, the opportunistic developer, likes to create quick-working solutions for immediate problems and focuses on productivity and learn as needed. Elvis, the pragmatic programmer, likes to create long-lasting solutions addressing the problem domain, and learn while working on the solution. Einstein, the paranoid programmer, likes to create the most efficient solution to a given problem, and typically learn in advance before working on the solution.
In Brian Leonard on “Elvis, Meet Portability” such developers are summarized in this way (see also Elvis Meets GlassFish and Elvis, Meet Portability):
“Elvis” is a pseudonym for programmers who are trying to get things done, as opposed to “Mort”, who's a click-and-install programmer, and “Einstein”, who wants complete and absolute control over individual bits.
I think I'm (or want to be) a mix of Elvis and Einstein (“trying to get things done” is different from “get things done”, and it ain't easy to let other tuch my code :-). [via]
