Mozilla mail setup

Note that Mozilla can import data directly from other popular Internet clients such as Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, and Eudora. Mozilla can also import data in several standard file formats, so migrating from other client software is also possible. Mozilla co-exist well with other Internet programs, so uninstalling them is unnecessary. Please refer to this document for more information on migrating.

Present mail setup at The Department of Informatics - Informatikk

In general:

• All mail is read using IMAP/SSL
• If you are working from home, you have to authenticate using SSL
• The mailserver uses your Informatics UNIX login (not the Windows login)
• The address of the mailserver is: mail.ii.uib.no

First Time user setup

When first time ran Mozilla, "New Account Setup".

Please fill these steps:

• Dialogue 1: Select Email account
• Dialogue 2: Your Name: (Type your Name) Email address: (your email address provided by Informatics)
• Dialogue 3: Server Information
  • Choose IMAP
  • Incoming Server : mail.ii.uib.no
• Dialogue 4: User Name Please provide your UNIX username as provided by Informatics
• Dialogue 5: Account Name: Please insert an appropriate name for the account
• After this, you need to follow the additional steps:
  • Choose in the main menu: Click -> Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup settings -> Server Settings
  • Select Use Secure Connection (SSL), as we only support SSL
  • Your incoming mail should now work correctly.

Outgoing mail setup

If your computer is frequently located at home (or outside the Informatics-network), please read text marked in italics.

1. Mozilla (and Netscape)

Choose in the main menu: Click -> Edit -> Mail & Newsgroup settings...

Please check that the outgoing server is set to mail.ii.uib.no, and that it is not filled in any User Name.

If you are working from home, you have to fill in your UNIX user name and 'use SSL When available'

Please click advanced to check that your only mail server is mail.ii.uib.no (remove any existing smtp.ii.uib.no)

Please check that the mail.ii.uib.no is the only SMTP server.

If you have smtp.ii.uib.no, please delete it, and add your new server as the following:

Again, if you are working from home, please fill in UNIX user name and 'use SSL When available'
