European Social Survey Education Net

ESS EduNet is a training resource mainly developed for use in higher education. The ambition is to create a social science laboratory where theoretical questions can be explored using high quality empirical data. The resource is based on the Rolls Royce1 of cross-national surveys: The European Social Survey.

ESS EduNet combines the elements of social science to an integrated whole: theory, data and methodology.

  • There are currently two theoretical topics available. One focusing upon social and political trust, and one focusing upon human values.
  • The accompanying data are extracts from the ESS-survey available for online analysis or download. These extracts are espesially prepared for the topics.
  • The hands-on examples and exercises are designed to guide the users through the research process; from a theoretical problem to the interpretation of statistical results.

European Social Survey

The European Social Survey (the ESS) is an academically-driven social survey designed to chart and explain the interaction between Europe's changing institutions and the attitudes, beliefs and behaviour patterns of its diverse populations. The first round of data was collected during the autumn of 2002.
