Statistical data

The datasets listed below can be explored online using Nesstar WebView. You can read the documentation and perform simple statistical analyses. To be able to perform more demanding data preparation and analyses, you must download the data.

Please note that ESS EduNet only contains small extracts from the complete ESS dataset. To get full, and free, access to the complete dataset with accompanying documentation, you must go to this site: European Social Survey Data.

The extracts are prepared for the different topics. Some of the exercises can not be solved online. This is why there are two versions of the dataset: one for exercises to be solved online, and one for exercises to be solved locally using a downloaded dataset.

ESS data

  • Human Values
You should use this dataset to solve the exercises in chapter 1, 2 and 3 of Human Values. The dataset is prepared for online analysis.
  • Download: Human Values
In chapter 4 (and 5) of Human Values you are asked to download this dataset and do some datapreparations.
  • Trust
You should use this dataset to solve the exercises in chapter 1 and 3 of Social and Political Trust. It is prepared for online analysis.
  • Download: Trust
In chapter 2 of Social and Political Trust you are asked to download this dataset and do some datapreparations.

Country Level Data

  • Country Level Data
This dataset contains country level statistics taken from the Human Development Report 2004 and the CIA World Factbook 2004. In addition there are also some variables with aggregated data from the ESS-survey.

Run-time NSDstat

For those who do not have any statistical software available, it is possible to download a run-time version of the statistical package NSDstat with the data included. The run-time version can only be used to analyse the integrated dataset. Download the file to your computer, double click on the file and follow the instructions. In some environments it is necessary to have administrator rights to be able to install new software.

Please note:

  1. If you already have a full version of NSDstat, you must only download data (By installing the run-time version you will overwrite your licenced version.).
  2. It is only necessary to install the run-time version once. If you have installed the run-time version, you should download data.
