General Info

Gaussian 03 is the latest in the Gaussian series of electronic structure programs.

Starting from the basic laws of quantum mechanics, Gaussian predicts the energies, molecular structures, and vibrational frequencies of molecular systems, along with numerous molecular properties derived from these basic computation types.

It can be used to study molecules and reactions under a wide range of conditions, including both stable species and compounds which are difficult or impossible to observe experimentally such as short-lived intermediates and transition structures. This article introduces several of its new and enhanced features.

Titan has a site license for G03.

Running G03 on Titan

In order to run G03 on Titan, you need to set the environment correct. In the usual Titan manner, you do this by loading modules (2 modules). In addition you need to run the G03 environment script, g03.profile and g03.login for bash and tcsh respectively. I.e. you need to include the following in your job-script (for bash)

module load g03
. $g03root/g03.profile
module load pgi

Note that the order to load modules in this case is not arbitrary. You need to load g03 before pgi.

Gaussian uses a lot of disk files during a run. There is an option to place the RWF (ReadWriteFile) files at different locations. In g03 at several locations there is a paragraph about this in the manual. Where these files are located can have an impact of the performance. Efficient placement of Scratch files.
