Oslo has purchased an extra cabinet, a controller and 5 disk shelfs.

Additional disk

The 5 additional disk shelfs in the Oslo installation are dedicated NOTUR home disrs, a distributed scratch dir and disk to astro and geophysics projects.

Physical layout

The disk layout is as follows:

The first four cabinets will be full, while the fifth will have 5 shelves.

15KRPM disks will be used to speed disk access to home, scratch and project storage. The NorStore project will be able to use all five controllers on the UiO installation.

Re-stacking

The UiO installation was delivered as five nearly full racks, but will be re-stacked to 4 full cabinets and one half full cabinet. This will demand that racks are re-wired. The new wiring will be:

  • All loops have 3 shelfs
  • Shelfs are renamed to match the new loops - USIT
  • All cables are shortened to best fit - USIT
  • Cable labeling is dropped (as it yet again is proven that it will not stay correct long anyway)
