VD, Research Computing Services, USIT, University of Oslo, Norway is a group of highly skilled scientists and technicians dedicated to support researchers and employees at the University of Oslo and to maintain the substantial computing facility named TITAN.

User support

Working in VD@USIT involves close contact with researchers, collaboration with some of the most prominent Norwegian centers of excellence, participation in ground breaking projects. VD offer help applying computational methods to new scientific challenges and assist research groups in applying computational methods to their research.

Computational facilities

The VD group is proud to operate TITAN, one of the largest computational resources in Norway. TITAN is a cluster with Infiniband interconnect, thousands of computing cores, large memory nodes, PB scale storage resources and parallel file systems. The facility is regularly and continuously upgraded and added to in terms of capacity, performance and complexity.

Features

• The Infiniband interconnect allow researchers to run jobs of up to thousands of cores (CPUs) in parallel
• The high memory nodes allow for single core jobs allocating up to 256GB of memory
• SMP nodes allow running of SMP-jobs (i.e OpenMP) of 16-32 cores
• The large storage resource allow researchers to store hundreds of terabytes of scientific data
• The GPFS parallel file system supports TITAN with good I/O throughput, giving the users a decent playground for high performance simulations

Positions

From time to time VD has vacant positions. We typically recruit scientists with in-depth knowledge of computers, parallelism, optimizing, high speed networks, etc.
