IMT3701 Cryptology
The purpose of this course is to give the students an introduction to the foundations of cryptography and its applications. The course also covers the abstract algebra, Boolean algebra, and number theory needed to understand the algorithms. Students having no or poor knowledge in these areas are strongly recommended to attend the intensive course held at HiG in week 33.
Course contents
The following topics are covered by the curriculum of the course:
- Classical cryptography
- Stream ciphers: Basic abstract algebra, pseudorandom generators, basic primitives, elements of Boolean algebra, non-linear filtering, and non-linear combiners with and without memory
- Block ciphers: Permutations, Boolean functions theory, Feistel ciphers, and substitution-permutation ciphers
- Public key ciphers: Computational complexity, elements of number theory, Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol, RSA cryptosystem, and ElGamal cryptosystem
- Applications of public key ciphers: Elliptic curves, digital signatures, hash functions, and discrete log.
