Anne Kvitle

Anne Kristin Kvitle

Work tasks

Anne mainly works with maintenance and development of geoPortal, the portal of geoNorge (www.geonorge.no), a Høykom-programme initiated by the Norwegian Research Council. The main goal of geoPortal was to develop solutions to give easy access to map services on the Internet.

The work consists of translating and adapting files from the American concept. Anne also works close together with a development team which is developing the XML and GML standards to be used in the project. This is very important to make it possible to have communication between the contributions from the different contributors.

Anne spent the first time in this job learning the existing software and concepts, and to refresh her knowledge of XML and GML. She claims that it was her knowledge of XML and the standards for meta-data combined with the comprehensive knowledge she achieved from the Master programme that secured her this job.

Further on it looks like Anne will get a chance to refresh her Java programming skills. Requests have been made to convert the map data to handheld media, and Anne will be a key figure in this process. She cannot emphasise sufficiently the importance of learning Java and XML. This will be important knowledge almost no matter what kind of job you get within this business, she claims.

Per wishes to continue in the gaming industry and he sees an excellent opportunity in this company and also via his connections.
