Reading your email using Webmail
NB: Make sure you read the paragraph "Webmail does not work - what is wrong?" before you contact Orakeltjenesten.
If you are somewhere without access to a normal email client, Webmail can be a good alternative.
What is Webmail
Webmail is an Web-based email client. The point of such services is to have access to your email from anywhere in the world, just using a normal Web browser - for instance at an Internet café. Webmail is now available for both students and employees.
Address book
Webmail has good support for address books. You can use them to store all the email addresses of people you communicate with, so you won't have to remember them yourself.
Composing a new email
To create a new email, click Compose from the toolbar near the top of the window. You will get a new window, where you can fill in the fields To and Subject. After this you can write the body into the bigger field, and send the email by clicking Send message. NB! Make sure you do not close or open other pages in the first window while writing the email. This will log you out of the system, and abort the sending.
Replying to emails
To reply to a received email, click on the email below Subject: from the mail window to open it, then click Reply from the toolbar.
Creating folders
To create new folders, first click Folders near the top of the window, then click Action: --> Create Folder
Switching between folders
You can switch between existing folders by choosing the folder you want from the list to the top right of the window.
Storing email in another folder
To store email in another folder, first click on the email below Subject: to open it. Then choose the folder you want from the list to the bottom right, and click Move to move it.
Webmail does not work - what is wrong?
You should check the following:
- Are cookies turned on in your web browser?
- Are you behind a firewall that stops HTTPS-traffic? Your local system administrator can usually answer this question.
- NB! Remember that you cannot close, or open another webpage in the first window (the one showing all your emails). This logs you out of the system.
