I started my professional career at the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), and worked for 11 years on wastewater treatment, analysis of wastewater systems, and water resources planning. I started with Norsk Hydro ASA in 1984, managing R&D programs and taking an active role in fish-farming development. During my years at the corporate center, I have worked on environmental policy development and implementation, including management and reporting systems. Especially, I have focused on developing, promoting and implementing the business case for sustainable development, with eco-efficiency, life-cycle/value chain approach, and framework conditions as key themes.
During my two years secondment (2001-2003) as director of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development 's Energy & Climate Program, I came closer to 160 of the world's leading global companies and have seen how the business case is challenged by lack of agreed international frameworks, the transatlantic divide, different national policies, and great uncertainty about future commitments. But I have also seen how companies use this as a period of change to develop new products and services, closely linked to changing policy frameworks and customer preferences.
At IndEcol, I will give lectures in the course Industrial Ecology and Systems Dynamics and supervise students. I will be a Board member of the IndEcol Program, and contribute to developing new courses.
