Sudan – Norwegian University Cooperation Programme for Capacity Development in Sudan (NUCOOP)
The NUCOOP Programme was established in 2007 on the initiative of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme supports cooperation projects between institutions of higher education in Sudan and Norway.
The overall aim of the programme is to contribute to capacity building to secure sustainable institutions in Southern Sudan and other marginalised areas in the country. The first phase of NUCOOP runs from 2007 to 2011 and geographical priority is given to Southern Sudan. NOK 65 million is set aside to the programme.
In the first round of NUCOOP, six projects were granted support. The University of Juba received funds for three bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects with the University of Bergen and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The Upper Nile University was given grants to carry out two educational projects with Akershus University College and Oslo University College. The University of Oslo and the University of Bahr el Ghazal received support for a capacity development project within mental health. For an overview of project allocations, see attachment in the right column.
Second call for proposals
As funds remained from the first round of NUCOOP, it was decided that a second call for proposals should be issued in 2008. Please be aware that only the following thematic areas will be eligible in the second round of NUCOOP:
- Health
- Gender equality
- Public administration
Application deadline is 13 June 2008.
