With oil-and-gas exploration now well underway in the Barents Sea, and with the prospect of more such exploration along the coast of northern Norway, there is a burgeoning need for skilled professionals in the energy field—people familiar with the peculiarities of the oil-and- gas industries, possessing strong regional knowledge and expertise in energy management, energy diplomacy, and geopolitics.

To meet this challenge, we have designed an innovative program that will prepare students for employment in this intellectually demanding—and rapidly growing—industry.
In designing our new program, we have created a learning environment focused equally on the industry’s needs as well as your own career goals. With a superb faculty, a curriculum that emphasizes Norwegian, Russian, and North American perspectives on energy management, diplomacy and leadership, and a schedule that includes one semester abroad as an integral part of the program, not to mention many other value-adding features, this program offers an absolutely unique educational opportunity. The curriculum, which emphasizes strategic management and knowledge of the industry, will cut across traditional business subject areas to provide you with a strong management perspective.
One of the program’s many wonderful features is the chance it offers you to get acquainted with different business cultures and develop a global style of thinking. The program includes workshops, lectures, seminars, and group discussions. There will also be visits either at or from energy enterprises and advisory and regulatory institutions in the energy sector from the involving countries, all of which will further afford you a deep, and diversified, insight into the industry.
Participants in the MSc in Energy Management Program will be students from Bodø Graduate School of Business and MGIMO University. Given how our program is designed, with students spending a semester together in Bodø and Moscow, you will have many chances to get to know each other and to learn from one another. And from all this social and intellectual interaction, you should gain an unparalleled international business network.
We want you to succeed, and we’ll do our best to see that you do. This novel program will significantly broaden your understanding of energy issues, help you develop proficiency in the constructive use of business administrative theory, and leave you with an active attitude towards business administration processes, especially as related to the energy sector.
The MSc in Energy Management at Bodø Graduate School of Business is an exceptional business education opportunity. We invite you to be a part of it.
Recognizing the global nature of the industry, the program adopts an international approach, focusing on relationships between Norway, Russia and the United States.
The first semester will focus on business administration and management theory, with an emphasis on broadening your understanding of the energy sector’s eclectic nature. And it will emphasize the changing processes in organizations and populations. In addition, you will get to explore some major environmental, philosophical, and ethical issues related to the energy industry.
The second semester will advance your theoretical knowledge in business- and energy-related topics. You will be introduced to newer and more complex theories. The Norwegian context, situated in a global perspective, will be a common theme throughout the semester, as will issues related to world oil markets, government relations, and the environment. You’ll also complete a course on research methods during this semester, which will help prepare you for your thesis work later in the program.
The third semester aims to help you deepen, integrate, and assimilate your new knowledge of theory and method. You will also engage in activities designed to improve your problem-solving skills. While at MGIMO University, you will build analytical and theoretical competence while analyzing key geopolitical and macroeconomic factors affecting the energy industry around the world.
