SOA-3001: Theoretical perspectives

Work Load
20  credits (ECTS)
Objectives
The course will introduce the students to the most central recent theories in social anthropology, and some main trends in the history of the discipline. The aim is to give the students and overview of current debates and thematic focuses in the disipline. The overview should facilitate the learning of relevant theoretical perspectives that can be used for the work with the mater''s thesis. The course will explore how the relationship between analytical argumentation and empirical grounding varies according to the use of different theoretical perspectives in the discipline.
Contents
The course will help the students to relate to some of the discipline''s main debates, and to develop a reflexive and critical approach to anthropological reasoning. Further the course will train the students in formulating own hypothesises and approaches to the problem, and assist them with methodological operationalisations.
