The themes of the conference are central issues that CASTL aims to investigate, namely formal analyses of natural language phenomena in a broad cross-linguistic perspective. These include:
PHONOLOGY
universal scales in phonology
segment strength and positional neutralization
the nature of prosodic representations
interactions between phonology and morphology
SYNTAX:
the status of parameters in linguistic theory and their relevance to acquisition
the nature of displacement and locality
the architecture of clause structure and extended projections
the representation of argument structure and other lexical semantic properties of words
the properties of categories such as noun and verb cross-linguistically
Inquiries may be directed to Senior Executive Officer Asbjørn Bartnes.
