Exchange Students
Application deadlines:
- Autumn semester: 15 May
- Spring semester: 15 October
Exchange students are students from institutions having exchange agreements with the University of Tromsø. The students are selected and nominated to UiT by their home university. Exchange students study in Tromsø for a period of 3-12 months.
If your university does not have an agreement with UiT you cannot apply to UiT as an exchange student. In this case, please consider other options for applying.

Admission requirements
Exchange students are expected to have
- completed at least one year of university studies
- a good command of English.
You apply through your international coordinator/the international office at your home university. Please contact your international office for further details on the process of selection and nomination for an exchange to the University of Tromsø.

The following forms and documents are required for an application to the University of Tromsø:
Application - Step by step
After you have been nominated by your home university as an exchange student to the University of Tromsø, you should
- print out and fill inn UiTs Exchange Student Application Form
- have the application signed by your international coordinator/ the international office at your home university.
- check UiTs course catalogue and select the courses you wish to attend at UiT
- print out UiTs Learning agreement and list your selected courses
- have the Learning agreement approved and signed by your international coordinator / the international office
- attach an original or verified copy of your transcript of records
- send the application to:

Processing your application
The International Office at the University of Tromsø checks that there is a valid exchange agreement with your university within your field of study. Your application is then sent for processing to the faculty in which you wish to study. The faculties base their decision regarding admission on the applicant’s academic performance and his/her fully completed application form and learning agreement.
When you have been accepted as an exchange student to UiT, the International Office sends you an information package including your “Letter of Admission” and “Student Contract”. The latter has to be signed and returned to us within a given deadline.
