Financing of studies

Admission as a self-financing free mover does not include any financial support from the University of Tromsø or Norwegian authorities. According to the rules set by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), students from outside EU/EEA must document at least

  • NOK 42 500 per semester (approximately US$ 8000 / 5500 Euro) at his or her disposal in a Norwegian bank account.
The money garantees, that a student is able to cover accommodation and other living costs in Norway. Only when finance is proved a student residence permit will be issued.

The Student Welfare Organisation (SWO) at the Unversity of Tromsø offers a temporary bank account for foreign students where the needed amount of money can be deposited. More information about the procedure can be downloaded here .
