The Master’s Programme
in Electrical engineering.

Mikroelektronikk
Academic contents and educational objectives:
Electrical engineering are the basis of today’s high technology.
The field covers, for example, signal processing, communications technology, digital image processing, microelectronics, photonics, control engineering and microwave technology. Current developments in these areas are occurring at a very rapid pace. Electronic systems are being used in almost every area of industry and business, research and leisure, in the form of computers, communications equipment, instrumentation for data collection and in the control of systems and processes. In the course of the programme the student will receive a wide-ranging and thorough education in the basic subjects within information and communications technology. In this context Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science are of particular importance. In the second half of the programme the student can choose between several specialist subjects that will provide knowledge of the very latest developments in the field. The programme contains both theory, experimental work and the employment of these abilities in practical projects. The programme takes as its starting point the research activities in the Department of Physics, a network of contacts in foreign centres for advanced technology, a well-equipped electronics laboratory and the electronics- and telemetry-milieu in the Tromsø area.
The last six months of the programme consists of a diploma project that can be carried out at the Department, in industry or at a research institute in Norway or abroad.

Master and diploma projects
Students who plan to start on a project in the autumn must contact the staff of the EE-group no later than during the spring-term. Around 1st May the EE-group will suggest projects for the autumn term, and the students must make a choice by 1st June. If several students choose the same project, the projects will be attributed by the staff.
