Health, safety and environment - Our common responsibility

The website for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE - in Norwegian ”HMS”) at the University of Tromsø aims to inform about safety work and support functions within Health, Safety and Environment work at the University of Tromsø. In addition to the Personnel department, the University has an organised safety service which in part will secure a greater influence and control of the employees on the implementation of security regulations and in part will work as a support and information service for the employer. In addition, the University has a safety manager, a social adviser, a priest and an employees’ health service at disposal for the employees’ wellbeing.

UiTø

The Universities management assumes its obvious responsibility and considers it of utmost importance that all employees have good and safe working conditions. As employer, the University of Tromsø has the responsibility that all work can be performed without any risk to health or for accidents. To aid in this task, the University has introduced a system to control and follow-up the working environment (internal control). This internal control system states that the management at all levels has a responsibility to consider and secure health, safety and environment in the activities they manage. As employee on the other hand it is your responsibility to cooperate with regulations and measures to secure a good working environment. Problems in the working environment should first be addressed with your nearest superior. Those who know of the problems are the best persons to solve them! Contact the safety representative when you are in need of help. The University should be a working environment that stands for well-being, pleasure and development both for the individual and for the University as a whole. To achieve this aim we all have our responsibilities towards each other and towards the working environment where each of us is employed.
