Systematic HSE work (internal control)
The purpose of systematic HSE work at UiT is to contribute to a work environment which stimulates the employees to be creative, constructive and critical. All experience indicates that to solve arising problems alone is not enough and the "guidelines for systematic HSE work in businesses (internal control regulations)" therefore contain basic requirements for how UiT should work systematically with HSE. Some of these requirements are to clearly define responsibilities, to map (potential) problems and to create plans of action.
The guidelines stipulates that those who responsible for the business are obliged to systematically follow up on the requirements stated in the work environment law (arbeidsmiljøloven), the pollution law (forurensningsloven), the fire- and explosion law (brann- og eksplosjonslovgivningen), the product control law (produktkontrolloven), the civil defence law (sivilforsvarsloven), and the law on electrical installations and equipment (lov om elektriske anlegg og elektrisk utstyr).
Activity is required in the form of mapping, risk evaluation and action plans, along implementation of routines to uncover, correct and prevent violations of the requirements. The system (and the activities involved) should be systematically monitored and inspected. The guidelines require cooperation of all employees both in the introduction and execution of the system.
