Safety deputy

The safety deputies are the employees’ representatives in the organised safety service. They will safeguard the interests of employees in matters concerning the working environment. Safety deputies will attend to that the requirements of the Working Environment Law are followed.

It is the employers’ duty to ask the safety deputies advice in all matters concerning the working environment. This includes both the physical and psychological working environment conditions such as ergonomics, chemical hazard, noise, indoor climate, education, information, interhuman contact, well-being, work rooms, fire and pollution of the external environment. The safety deputies will also be counselled during internal control rounds and maintenance of the internal control system.

Safety deputies are from and by employees in each protection area. The safety deputy is chosen based on personal suitability, not on job-position. The safety deputies work is described in arbeidsmiljøloven Chapter VI and in ”Forskrift om verneombud og arbeidsmiljøutvalg”.
