FORTHCOMING AUTUMN 2008
ENG 1120 INTRODUCTION TO AMERICAN STUDIES
This module will be taught for campus-based students as well as part-time students who cannot travel to the University on a weekly basis (the latter by specific application procedures, please consult the Faculty administration for registration details before April 15, 2008).
Preliminary Description, 2008 Module:
This module provides an introduction to American Literature and Culture from Colonial times to the present. The Autumn 2008 module will include special emphasis on the November 2008 elections and cover the historical developments of civil and political institutions in the U.S. from the founding of the Constitution in 1787 to the 21st century, with focus on both changes and antiquated phenomena still in use such as the "electoral college." The reading list will consist of an approximate 50/50 split between literary and cultural texts. Major themes of the 2008 module will also include black history, women's history, and the U.S. pre and post 9/11.
Organization: weekly lectures for campus students and online Fronter lessons for both campus and off-campus students. In addition, an all-day session in the first and last week of the semester will be offered for both campus and off-campus students.
The pensum list and detailed course requirements/sche will be available online at the end of the Spring semester.
