INF-3201 Concurrent and parallel programming

Contents Parallel programming techniques are introduced. Models for parallel programming. Parallel machines and machine structures. Parallel programming languages, environments, libraries and toolboxes. Message passing and shared memory models of parallel computation. Data partitioning and load balancing techniques. Study of algorithm and program development of medium sized applications.

Recommended previous qualifications INF-2200 Computer architecture and organization, INF-2201 Operating systems fundamentals

Form of teaching Lectures: 30, Colloquium: 30, Laboratory: 30<br>The coursework includes up to 4 written assignments graded Pass/Fail. Oral presentation of the assignments and demonstration of a working system can be claimed. Approved assignments give access to the final written exam.

Coursework requirements 4 assignments

Exam and assessment Fall exam. 4 hours final exam graded by letter A-F. The overall grade for the course is determined 100% by the final exam.

Date(s) of written examination 14.12.2007 The exam date is preliminary and may be subject to change. Definitive exam date will be announced on the notice boards at the faculties in the beginning of May for the spring semester and in the beginning of November for the autumn semester.
