Master's programs in Computer Science
The Department of Computer science offers 2 Master's degree programmes of 2 years length:
The objective of the 2-year master’s programme in Computer Science is to give a preparatory introduction to research in the field and strengthen the graduate’s academic basis for the practical application of his/her knowledge.
The programme covers both the theoretical basis and the experimental methods in computer science.
Master’s graduates work in a wide range of computer-based occupations within private and public industry, management, education, research and development.
Each Computer Science course in the program covers both a theoretical and an experimental approach to the discipline. Higher level courses are directly connected to the research within the Department. This imply an opportunity for substantial knowledge in the fields covered.

The programme offers various forms of instruction. Most courses consists of lectures as well as tutorials and colloquia. In the lectures the theory of the syllabus is covered. In the colloquium students are active by solving assignments and discussing aspects of the field. A significant part of all courses in Computer Science is the experimental training at the programming laboratories.
Mandatory coursework is given to each course. Approved assignments give access to the exam. The examination structure differs between the courses; from written examination to project work reports, presentation of scientific work or oral examination. And often a combination of these methods.
The last year of the programme is dedicated to work with a research project under individual supervision given by the Department's faculty members. This project culminates in a master thesis.
For further information on evaluation, examination and assessments, see the individual course descriptions.
When completing the programme, the qualification awarded is a Master of science degree in Computer Science. This qualifies the candidates for admission to the PhD-programme in Computer Science, with the proviso that the graduate’s final degree classification is of a satisfactory level.
