Finding work in Tromsø
For the time being, the unemployment rate in Tromsø is very low. This obviously increases your chances of finding work since the demand for labour at the same time is very high.
However, most available jobs in Tromsø demand some knowledge of Norwegian. We therefore strongly encourage students who are looking for part-time jobs or equivalent, to learn some Norwegian before putting too much effort in the job-seeking process.

Tutoring
You might be in possession of certain language skills that are needed in some local school in the area. This means that you probably will have to work during the week but it might only be for a few hours. For schools in the district check out the following page: http://www.tromso.kommune.no/index.db2?id=1556 (information in Norwegian only)
“Folkeuniversitetet“
This school offers a variety of language courses, from Russian to Chinese. The classes are relatively small and the pupils are motivated adults. Maybe you can be an assistant teacher in one of their courses?

International companies
Find out if there are any companies in Tromsø with business-relations to your home country. If so, you might be a resource when it comes to for example language skills. Maybe you have other professional and academic knowledge which the company is looking for?
It may be difficult to get a good overview of these companies. Try looking them up on the internet or ask your embassy if they are familiar with any such companies. For foreign embassies follow this link; http://odin.dep.no/ud/norsk/dok/andre_dok/veiledninger/032101-190004/dok-bn.html
Visit employers
When you have made a good CV and a general letter of motivation, it is advisable that you visit potential employers in person. Bring your papers with you and ask if you may speak to someone responsible for recruitment. Be polite, positive and professional – if you are at the right place at the right time, this might work out to your advantage.
