External projects
NORSTRUCT is involved in a range of projects nation-wide as an external partner. Most of the collaborative projects that are presently active are as a result of and a continuation of services provided by NORSTRUCT.
The involvement from NORSTRUCT in external projects range from extensive search for crystallization conditions and optimization, data collection and structure determination, to structure-functional analyses using a variety of techniques.
Since the capacity for carrying out full scale structure determination in collaborative projects is limited, external partners should together with NORSTRUCT make joint efforts to obtain additional resources for the structural work. Co-workers from external projects should also use the Guest program to visit NORSTRUCT and carry out structural studies under guidance.
NORSTRUCT is also involved in projects where the external collaborator can benefit from the established methods in computational biology, bioinformatics, biophysical and molecular biology techniques.
NORSTRUCT is by March 2006 actively involved in 28 external projects. All 4 FUGE-regions and all the 6
Norwegian universities are represented among the external partners. In the order of 37 different proteins from external users are currently in the NORSTRUCT pipeline from crystallization trials to structure determination, either as a service task or through a collaborative project. Of the 21 new structures determined so far by NORSTRUCT, 10 originates from external partners.
